Internet Vocabulary Glossary

Address box  The box in your internet browser that displays a web page's URL,
Browser  A program, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, that finds and displays documents stored on the web,
Home page  1) The web page that displays first when you open your browser. 2) The main page of a web site, which displays information about the contents of the site, and from which you can access all other pages.
Hyperlink  A piece of text or an image that acts as a link from one web page to another,
Internet  The vast computer network made by linking computers together around the world, 
Internet service provider (ISP)  A company that gives users access to the internet,
Network  A group of computers, linked so that they can share infomation and resources,
Newbie  A new internet user or a new member of a newsgroup,
Router  Powerful computers owned by ISPs which sort and send data between servers and user computers,
Server    A computer at the heart of a network which stores data accessed by other (client)computers.               A web server stores web sites,
Software  Computer programs, which enable you to perform tasks on a computer,
URL (Uniform Resource Locator)  The unique address of any internet document.  For example:  http://ois-it7.blogspot.com/,
Web page  A document on the World Wide Web which may contain graphics,
Website  A collection of Web pages put onto the internet by an individual or organization,
